Beamforming base stations to provide extended range and throughput connectivity to Wi-Fi clients

Wavion has released a new software version with enhanced support for Voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications for residential and business connectivity.

The company's base stations can now support a multitude of concurrent high quality voice calls in parallel to high capacity data flows. This capability is attained by using a new mechanism that optimises the air utilisation and by leveraging its beamforming technology that provides improved links, said Wavion.

According to Wavion, its VoIP service integrates the WBS base station with standard based components as Wi-Fi clients and a SIP bases ATA devices for the voice device. It can run on both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz license exempt bands. Its data and VoIP bundled product optimises the number of simultaneous calls, application priority and other consideration to support carrier grade voice and data services.

The company said that its spatially adaptive beamforming base stations provide extended range and throughput connectivity to standards-based Wi-Fi clients. The Wi-Fi offering requires one third of the units than other Access Points (APs) to cover the same area, with enhanced indoor penetration and fewer dead spots.

Eran Kaplan, EVP of sales and marketing at Wavion, said: “Wavion is proud to add this powerful VoIP capability to its base station product line. Wavion Wi-Fi end-to-end solution can now support also high quality VoIP services, which is a critical factor in business and residential connectivity in metro and rural deployments.
