Zantaz introduces legal hold solution

Enterprise software company Autonomy Corporation's subsidiary Zantaz has launched Desktop Legal Hold, an information risk management solution for remote enforcement of legal hold across desktops and laptops.

A legal hold is a process used by an organization to preserve all forms of relevant information when litigation is reasonably anticipated.

According to Zantaz, the new solution does not require a continuous network connection, all information and metadata are preserved locally and continuously in real-time. It locks down the original files in place and the information is collected when internet connection is established.

The company said that the solution is built on Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) and by applying advanced conceptual and keyword legal search, all information relevant to legal matters is preserved. It maintains the audit trail and forensic credibility, while reducing the legal risk of fines and sanctions associated with non-compliance to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) for eDiscovery.

The company claims that the Desktop Legal Hold is the industry's first solution that addresses the gap in electronic discovery between information stored on networks and laptops due to the lack of standardization, continuous offline status and multiple formats and locations. It also reduces the data volumes by intelligently identifying all types of information relevant to legal hold policies.

In October 2007, the company unveiled its IDOL-based solutions for proactive information risk management, which included offerings such as media restoration, consolidated archiving and advanced electronic data discovery.
