First handset to meet new PlayStation Certified distinction standards
Sony Ericsson presented its new smartphone designed for playing video games in a TV commercial during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
The handset is likely to be named Xperia Play and will run on Google’s Android OS.
The phone maker has said in its Facebook page that it will officially launch the new smartphone on 13 February.
Sony Ericsson is a joint venture between Sweden’s Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson and Japan’s Sony.
The new smartphone is believed to be the first handset to meet Sony’s new PlayStation Certified distinction standards. It is also the first time Sony Ericsson has worked closely with Sony’s PlayStation group in developing a product.
A Sony Ericsson spokeswoman has confirmed that the company sponsored the commercial during the Super Bowl.
