Experian insight reveals that Cyber Monday 2012 was the biggest one for retailers in the UK, increasing 32% when compared to last year.
UK consumers also set new records for the amount of time spend shopping online in one day, with the average shopper spending 15 hours on retail sites.
The biggest winners of on Cyber Monday were eBay, Amazon and Argos. The retail giants accounted for 30% of all retail visits on that day.
Experian also found that another 62% of all retail visits when to big online shopping brands.
"As we predicted Cyber Monday smashed previous online shopping records with Brits making a massive 112 million visits to online retailers on Monday," said James Murray, digital insight manager for Experian marketing services."This represents a 32 percent increase from Cyber Monday last year and is the biggest single day of online shopping we’ve ever witnessed."
Amazon had the largest increase in market share of visits this year representing 12% of all retail results, up from 10% last year.
Mobile devices were widely used for shopping on Cyber Monday with eBay UK mobile and Argos Mobile being the third and sixth fastest moving websites.
"There is still plenty of shopping time between now and Christmas however, and in particular we are expecting a lot of last-minute panic buying online on Christmas Eve as consumers take advantage of click-and-collect services," added Murray. "Marketers need to be aware of these trends so they can engage with their customers at the night time to maximise sales in what could be a bumper Christmas year for online retail."
