Linkedin releases its iPad application

The professional networking site has designed the application to be a "personal assistant" for each user in order to encourage interaction throughout the day.

Professionals can manage their day using Linkedin’s calendar feature to see when and who they are meeting. The iPad app is able to sync with devices to include Linkedin profile data about each person a user plans to meet that’s scheduled in their calendar.

"The new experience re-imagines LinkedIn for the iPad, taking full advantage of Multi-touch and the new Retina display," said Manish Sharma, senior product manager at Linkedin. "We aspire to be the place where every professional comes throughout the day. A place where members come to gather important business intelligence and insights to be great at what they do."

The iPad app allows the user to access their profile, connections and activity board as well the ability to send and receive Linkedin messages and invitations. The app also gives updates, news and information in one place.

Last year research revealed that 32% of Linkedin users checked the site several times a week and 35% logged onto the site daily.

The study by market research firm Lab 42 also found that 42% of users updated their profiles regularly and 81% belonged to at least one group.

The launch of the iPad application may help Linkedin propel its user interaction even further.

The site has seen recent success in the Southeast Asian market with its user base reaching 1 million in Indonesia and 25 million across the Asia Pacific region.
