Dell EMC acquisition leads to Michael Dell’s discussion of digital transformation explosion in businesses.
Following the largest tech acquisition in history came the merging of two of the biggest vendors, Dell and EMC. Since the deal there were more than a few changes before two became one.
After the $67 billion acquisition in 2015, many saw Dell, and the new company of Dell EMC, as a potential global trendsetter for the tech industry.
At the first combined show show since the acquisition, Michael Dell, Dell EMC CEO, introduced Dell EMC World 2017 saying: “This isn’t our show, this is your show. It’s about how you’re changing the world and using transformation to change your businesses.
“Making digital transformation happen, making it real, that’s why we created Dell Technologies, combining innovations from Dell EMC, Pivotal, RSA, Secureworks, Virtustream and VMware. This allows us to innovate like a startup with the scale of a global powerhouse.”
Michael Dell went on to discuss the importance of both Digital and IT transformation, not only in the technology industry but in the workforce as a whole.
As the increase of digital transformation has levelled up over the years, it is one that has been recognised to fundamentally change how businesses across various industries are built and operated, to then identify how they interact with customers.
Dell said: “We are at the beginning of an innovation explosion. CEO’s want their companies to become technology companies.
“You’re competing with startups who are more sophisticated at injecting new products into their platform. You need an IoT strategy, a cloud strategy and a workforce strategy. As well as security, that’s the highest priority of all.”
According to Dell, succeeding in the new digital world requires IT transformation. This means that companies need to base their IT infrastructure on modern architecture which simplifies infrastructure, accelerates workloads and reduces the time and money spent on legacy systems.
Dell identifies two additional factors as being key to delivering this transformation. in delivering IT transformation, first includes automating IT services, such as deploying hybrid cloud that are packed with flexible, scaled-out platforms and are also seven times more likely to deliver IT as a profit.
Dell explained that cloud is more than just a place, but rather a way to deploy information technology.
“Many customers have already told us that hybrid cloud is twice as expensive than private cloud… but you can’t do that with IT transformation and we’re here to help you do that.
“We believe it’s going to be a multi-cloud world. If you have a public cloud first and only strategy, I think you’re going to find yourself uncompetitive in the long-run.
“All flash, cloud enabled, software defined all designed to support a full range of infrastructure. And in open networking, where both Dell and EMC are both recognised a leader in 15 Gartner Magic Quadrants,” said Dell.
Dell explained that as the business drives new digital initiatives, the transformation of IT must be fitted to change the model of the business, the growth of data and its storage and more.
As part of the company’s strategy to help businesses to transform the CEO announced improvements to its high-end enterprise storage platform VMAX as well as VXRail.
Dell said: “Moving to the software-defined data centre, we’ve got VXRail jointly defined by Dell and EMC together, which can be defined by how you manage and structure your business together.
This is just one of the many examples Dell gave on how it has worked to help businesses boost their infrastructure to deliver digital transformation in the workplace.
“Now the workforce and the workplace are changing, work isn’t really a place anymore, it’s a platform, and we’re innovating the workforce and the way people work.
“You’re going to see some fantastic new innovations powered by Dell. We’re announcing the global rollout of our PC as a service, which remains core to our business, powering the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality,” said Dell.
Dell wants to help customers of all sizes to realise digital transformation, which makes the show’s tagline of ‘Realize’ quite apt.
