Users will be able to deploy on Google’s infrastructure.
Red Hat’s OpenShift Dedicated is coming to the Google Cloud Platform.
The move will bring the open source company’s container platform as a managed service to customers that want to build, launch, and manage applications on OpenShift Dedicated while using the Google Cloud Platform as the underlying infrastructure.
Red Hat says that this will help to speed the adoption of containers, Kubernetes, and cloud-native application patterns.
The move seems like a sensible one as users will be able to tap into Google’s infrastructure which has been optimised for container use, partly because Google has been using containers internally for a long time.
An additional benefit is that users will be able to more easily augment their applications with some of Google’s ecosystem of products, such as data analytics, machine learning, compute, network, and storage services.
The company said that OpenShift Dedicated on GCP will include single-tenant isolation and a resource pool of 100GB SSD-based persistent storage, 48TB network iops, and nine nodes to deploy container-based applications.
Users will also have access to Red Hat JBoss Middleware container-optimised services, integration and business process capabilities from applications developed and deployed on OpenShift and there will also be integration with Google Cloud services such as Big Query, Big Table and PubSub.
Availability will be across all six worldwide Google regions.
This isn’t the first work that the companies have done together as they have been heavily involved in the Kubernetes project. The two have been collaborating to help increase the scalability, multi-tenancy, and high availability of the container orchestration and cluster management project.
