Cambridge based chipmaker ARM is targeting mass deployment of IoT devices with an expanded suite of hardware.
The company will add to its mbed IoT Device Platform the mbed Device Connector, the mbed OS (a Technology Preview version) and new mbed Reference Designs.
The additions will be unveiled this week at the company’s TechCon 2015 conference, in California, US. ARM said the new suite shortens hardware design times to increase product differentiation.
The mbed IoT Device Platform was launched in October 2014 and was designed to provide the OS, cloud services, tools and developer ecosystem needed in order to deliver commercial, standards-based IoT solutions at scale.
The company said the mbed Device Connector allows developers to connect devices within prototype deployments, build secure web applications quickly and easily integrate them with cloud solutions.
Built to enable the IoT to scale, the mbed OS Technology Preview version is the latest iteration of the modular OS for ARM Cortex-M based MCUs.
The company has also created two new reference platforms as part of a roadmap of mbed Reference Designs aimed at helping developers cut the time from prototype to final device design with the use of open-source resources.
ARM said the designs include mbed Wearable Reference Design, featuring a wrist-based connected device with a battery life of around eight weeks, and the mbed Smart City Reference Design aimed at infrastructure monitoring and smart industrial applications using Sub-GHz 6LoWPAN & CoAP mesh network protocols for large numbers of devices.
