The new platform is designed to help companies manage their digital trasnformation.
VMware have unveiled a new IoT platform solution for enterprises, VMware Pulse IoT Centre.
This new IoT platform will provide both IT and OT teams within a company complete control over their existing IoT infrastructure.
VMware says that this is the first offering in a new line of products from the company and that Pulse IoT Centre will help manage the entire process from the edge to the cloud.
Mimi Spier, vice president, IoT, VMware, said: “As enterprises look to transform into digital businesses, this creates an opportunity for IT and OT teams to collaborate as they embrace IoT to improve operations within their business, while generating new forms of revenue.”
“We’re leveraging our expertise and proven success in the enterprise and applying it to IoT infrastructure and across all ‘things.’ VMware Pulse IoT Centre will provide IT and OT teams visibility and control across their IoT use cases, while offering peace of mind with security capabilities throughout the IoT value chain.”
According to Gartner, 90% of IoT projects will use an IoT gateway by 2020, and IDC estimate that the amount of installed IoT endpoints is expected to grow from 12.1 billion in 2015 to 30 billion in 2020.
VMware believes that many companies involved in IoT are now moving away from proof of concept and heading into actual production. The company says that the new IoT platform will eliminate the complexity that is often prevalent when making the transition into new systems, or adding new devices to the existing network.
The platform will also claims to be secure from the ground as it uses tunnels from data points to applications, minimising the amount of data that is left exposed. Similarly exposed devices can be wiped at any time.
Andy Rhodes, Vice President and General Manager, Internet of Things, Dell, said: “VMware Pulse IoT Centre will help our customers make managing all their data and devices simpler and their journey to digital transformation a reality.”
VMware Pulse IoT Centre is expected to be available in 2017.
