Microsoft Cortana update includes Raspberry Pi 3 with Windows 10 IoT Core.
Users will soon be able to use Microsoft’s Cortana with Raspberry Pi 3, with the tech giant adding support for Cortana to its Windows 10 IoT Core operating system.
The addition of IoT Core will enable Raspberry Pi 3 owners to interact with Microsoft’s virtual assistant, Cortana after installing the Creators Update for the OS.
Microsoft’s Cortana on IoT devices will work similarly to the way it works on PC’s, and users will be able to request information on weather, time and traffic, among other information.
Smart devices will also be able to be built using Raspberry Pi 3 as long as they are based on Windows 10 IoT core.
It has been designed to be supported by devices with small or medium-sized screens, providing a voice response with optimised visual content.
Microsoft has already been rolling out a smart home strategy via its Cortana voice assistant and with today’s Creators Update release, the addition of Cortana to its Windows 10 IoT core stands as a big enhancement to Windows 10 features.
The company recently announced the addition of mixed reality and 3D features to its updates list, with recent announcements of a mixed reality development kit and Paint 3D app which will enable immersive experiences with companies such as Acer, Dell and more.
The update will also provide users with reactive experiences from Cortana IoT Core, which occurs when the user initiates commands to minimise multiple steps to complete a task.
From a list of the included capabilities with the Creators Update, Cortana on IoT Core skills will include a chit chat feature, news and more.
For additional features, users will need to access the Creators Update on the developers’ boards using the Windows 10 IoT Core Dashboard.
The new Microsoft Creators Update will be made available from today.
