News: Watch will allow customers to “pay-by-wrist”.
Swatch and Visa are coming together to allow NFC payments via watch.
The Swatch Bellamy will bring "pay by wrist" in the US, Switzerland Brazil, anywhere that NFC contactless payment is available in-store.
Payments will be conducted via Visa technology, and the NFC chip that facilitates the payments will be built into the watch, hidden under the dial.
Swatch says that the transactions do not require any energy from the watch, and so its battery life will not be reduced. Swatch said in September 2015 that it was working on a battery for smartwatches that could last up to six months.
The Swatch Bellamy was first revealed in China in October 2015, and is planned for release in early 2016.
Wearable devices, and smart watches in particular are becoming a growing tech battleground between major firms, with the launch of the Apple Watch, and Samsung’s response, the Gear S2.
Business applications are also now being built for smart watches. Salesforce released 20 business applications for the Apple Watch in September 2015.
