EE hailed as UK’s top network operator

EE is the top telecoms provider in the UK for overall network performance, according to a study by RootMetrics.

The operator was given the highest Overall Rootscore Award with a score of 89.4. Three came second at 86.2, O2 followed at 79.5 and Vodafone at 78.8.

Operators were given scores out of 100 in six categories: Overall, Reliability, Speed, Mobile Internet, Call and Text. EE came top in all categories, either outright or in a tie, while Three tied with them in Reliability and came second in all other categories.

RootMetrics compiled the review by testing network performance across the UK, driving 24,000 miles in the process.

"The networks are all getting better, period. We saw improvements across the board in speed, mobile internet performance, and network reliability," said RootMetrics CEO and President Bill Moore.

"Consumers deserve reliable mobile experience wherever they are, whether they’re making a call, downloading a video, or texting friends. That’s why, in this third time we tested the UK, we went even further into cities, rural communities and on the road to provide the most comprehensive, scientifically sound, and fiercely independent view of mobile coverage available anywhere."

With EE due to be acquired by BT, and Three owner Hutchinson Whampoa purchasing O2, it will be interesting to see what changes manifest in the next edition of the annual report.
