Improves visualisation and reporting features
Network performance monitoring supplier NetQoS Inc has pushed the capabilities of its software flagship with the addition of new features that provide performance dashboard and maps so that administrators can better optimise network response times across applications and sites.
The NetQoS Performance Center version 5.0 has new data collection, analysis, and reporting features to help operations personnel, engineers, and executives ensure optimum application performance across the network, the company said.
Explaining the thinking behind the product development, NetQoS said that there is no single metric or data source that provides a clear view of network performance. Its product improves and simplifies analysis of performance data because it can now display it in highly visual formats, and other ways operations personnel and executives are used to.
“There is a huge amount of performance data available,” Patrick Ancipink, Director of Product Marketing said, “and a need to correlate multiple data sources to understand exactly where extra capacity is needed or to pinpoint where network optimisation would makes sense.” The new features will help in this regard.
He said the system automatically handles data collection from multiple sources and adds analytics and report features on top. From there administrators can define what normal network performance looks like, and go on to set intelligent thresholds which can then be managed dynamically from the system console.
The new Application Performance Dashboard helps isolate the root cause of problems down to the network, server, or application level. It will then take an admin from an initial alert to a point where they can drill down to examine packet details and carry out in depth diagnosis and troubleshooting.
“The system is designed to provide network performance data in as many ways as possible, so that as well as producing a depth of data it provides data that is meaningful to different people in the organisation,” Ancipink said.
As well as being able to produce high-level management reports, administrators can drill down or produce contextualised reports of engineering specific details, such as server response times, or utilisation rates across the different network topologies.
A new addition to Version 5 is NetQoS Connector for Microsoft Excel, something that allows data harvested by the NetQoS Performance Center to be siphoned off and used to build custom reports in Excel.
The arrival of new anomaly detector will also help improve the system’s ability to analyse multiple data sources as it scouts for any changes in network behaviour which could impact application performance or signal a security breach.
