Analysis: Kable Global ICT Intelligence – support services are the most likely to be outsourced.
The service support and help desk are the most likely IT functions to be outsourced by organisations, Kable analysis reveals.
Kable‘s Global ICT Insight survey found that 53.3 percent of companies had outsourced this function, with 17.1 percent considering doing so and only 29.6 percent not considering doing so at all.
Applications were also outsourced by most organisations, with 51 percent having done so and 17.4 percent considering doing so. 31.6 percent had no plans to do so.
However, only 48.6 percent had outsourced IT infrastructure. 16.8 percent had plans to outsource infrastructure and 34.6 no plans.
39.2 percent had outsourced IT management. 17.4 percent had plans to outsource it and 43.5 percent no plans, showing that companies generally are still hesitant to cede control of their overall IT to third parties.
These figures had changed little year-on-year; in Kable’s previous report a year earlier, 40.5 percent had outsourced management, 16.4 percent had plans to do so and 43 percent no plans.
While for most of the respondents significantly less respondents had outsourced IT management than had not outsourced it, in Asia-Pacific 44.8 percent had outsourced it compared to 36.2 percent, suggesting a more bullish approach.
