Marks Google’s third major cloud acquisition this year.
Google has bought real-time backend database start-up, Firebase, which enables developers to create real-time apps for iOS, Android and the web that can instantly store and sync data.
The latest effort marks Google’s third major acquisition for its Cloud Platform during 2014, involving the purchase of monitoring service Stackdriver and Zync.
Following the acquisition, Google will continue operating the start-up and Firebase employees will join the tech major’s cloud-computing team.
Google product management director Greg DeMichillie said: "By combining Firebase with Google Cloud Platform, we’ll be able to build the best end-to-end platform for mobile application development.
"If you’re already a Firebase developer, you’ll start seeing improvements right away and if you’re a Google Cloud Platform customer, you’ll find it even easier to create great mobile and web apps.
"The entire Firebase team is joining Google and, under the leadership of Firebase co-founders James Tamplin and Andrew Lee, will be working hard to bring you great new features.
"Not only will the products you already love continue to get better, but you’ll also gain access to the full power of Google Cloud Platform.
Established three years ago, Firebase currently has almost 110,000 registered developers on its platform and its investors include Flybridge Capital Partners and Union Square Ventures.
Google is also planning to rollout new Firebase features at its Google Cloud Platform Live event on 04 November.
Firebase co-founder and CEO James Tamplin said: "With Google’s engineering talent, resources, and technical infrastructure, we’ll be able to do much more, much faster.
"Second, our products and missions are highly complementary. Both the Firebase and Google Cloud Platform teams come to work each day for the same reason: to help developers create extraordinary experiences.
"By joining forces, Firebase developers will gain access to a powerful cloud infrastructure suite, and Cloud Platform customers will gain access to our rapid development capabilities. Together we’ll deliver a complete platform for mobile and web apps."
