IBM’s $100 million investment in design innovation pays dividends.
IBM has announced the availability of IBM Verse, a new social messaging solution with built-in analytics.
The solution, a result of IBM’s $100 million investment in design innovation, integrates email, calendars, file-sharing, instant messaging and social in a cloud-based environment.
Features include faceted search, helping users to quickly retrieve specific information across the various types of content within their email, as well as team analytics, which allows users to see an organisational graph of the people on their thread and gain insights before responding.
Another capability is secure file-sharing, which makes it easier to co-edit, review and comment on a file. Users can easily upload files from their desktop and share it with mail recipients. Owners can track who has downloaded a file and recipients always have access to the latest version.
IBM Verse also aims to enhance calendaring capabilities through an animated, visible design displayed across the bottom of the landing page.
The solution is delivered on the SoftLayer Cloud. IBM plans to offer new native mobile apps for Verse to integrate with the IBM MobileFirst platform; the roll-out will initially target IBM iOS for iPhone.
"One of the few things that have changed with email over the past 30 years is the amount of messages being sent and received," says Jeff Schick, General Manager, Enterprise Social Solutions at IBM.
He continues: "Businesses are sending upwards of 108 billion emails a day and people just can’t keep up. Verse combines things like email, calendaring and file sharing with analytics to provide a system that learns who and what are most important to you."
