Adds support for iPhone and calls over 3G
Agito Networks has unveiled a major update to its product line, offering the ability to make calls over 3G, support for Apple’s iPhone device and the ability to scale to up to 10,000 users.
Agito Global Enterprise includes the firm’s RoamAnywhere Mobility Router v4.0, a unified communications product that can turn a mobile device into an extension of a desk phone.
The company’s previous platform enabled customers to make calls over Wi-Fi as well as the regular cellular network. Pejman Roshan, Agito CMO and co-founder, told CBR that adding 3G capabilities will further reduce costs for users as using data connectivity for calls rather than cellular is cheaper, especially when using the device abroad.
Roughly 70% – 80% of potential customers looking at our solution are fixed on cost reductions, Roshan said. It varies from customer to customer but savings can be 60% – 70%.
The platform will automatically select the most suitable network, so user intervention is kept to a minimum.
Agito Global Enterprise also includes support for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch, the new BlackBerry 9700 and the Nokia N and E series. Adding Apple’s devices to the company’s line-up validates the iPhone as an enterprise-ready device, Roshan said. Agito has seen increased demand for the device from its customers.
We’re seeing a lot of demand in the US for it, less so in the UK and EMEA, probably because North America is ahead of the adoption curve when it comes to iPhones, he said. While the BlackBerry still has its fans because of the physical keyboard and email functionality there is heavy demand from our customers for the iPhone.
Alongside the iPhone, Agito has also included support for the iPod Touch, although Roshan added that the device is expected to make up a very small part of the business. While some clients, particularly in the healthcare area, are looking to roll out the iPod Touch for certain uses, Roshan told CBR that once development of iPhone support was complete it was a short step to the iPod Touch because of the similarities between the two devices.
Agito Global Enterprise features the RA6000 Series router, which can scale to 10,000 users per appliance. This will help the firm target larger enterprises, Roshan said. It sits alongside the RA2000 Series, which is for 25-100 users, and the RA4000 Series, for 100-1,000 users.
Pricing for the new RoamAnywhere v4.0 platform starts at $9,995 for the 2000 Series, $26,995 for the 4000 Series, and $34,995 for the 6000 Series. Subscription-based pricing is also available.
