Whispersync technology to automatically save and synchronise bookmarks
Amazon.com has unveiled ‘Kindle for Mac’, a free application that enables readers enjoy Kindle books on their Mac computers.
The US Kindle Store currently offers over 450,000 books, including new releases and 102 of 111 New York Times Bestsellers. Kindle books can be read on the Kindle, Kindle DX, iPhone, iPod touch, BlackBerry, PC and Mac, and soon on the iPad.
The company said that the Kindle for Mac features its Whispersync technology that automatically saves and synchronises bookmarks and last page read across devices.
According to Amazon.com, the new Kindle for Mac allows readers to purchase, download, and read books available in the Kindle Store; access their library of previously purchased Kindle books stored on Amazon’s servers for free; choose from 10 different font sizes and adjust words per line; add and automatically synchronise bookmarks and last page read.
In addition, the Kindle for Mac also allows users to view notes and highlights marked on Kindle, Kindle DX, and Kindle for iPhone, and read books in full colour including children’s books, cookbooks, travel books and textbooks.
Jay Marine, director of Amazon Kindle, said: Kindle for Mac is the perfect companion application for customers who own a Kindle or Kindle DX. For those customers around the world who don’t yet have a Kindle, Kindle for Mac is a great way to instantly access and read the most popular new releases as well as their old favorites.
Amazon also plans to add several features to the Kindle for Mac app in the near future, including full text search and the ability to create and edit notes and highlights.
