Amstrad Plc has gone to the one US specialist in the field, Micron Technology Inc, to secure supply of memory chips, and the Japanese are now having to look to Seoul to alleviate their memory problems: and now Canon Inc has turned to the handful of ambitious Korean suppliers in order to secure a steady supply; the company has $300m of contracts out with some 10 companies in Japan, the US and Europe, but still needs more and will get its 256Ks – used in facsimile machines and laser printers – from across the water in Korea.
