News: Company reportedly poaching talent from Tesla, Ford, General Motors.
Apple has reportedly taken its first step in automotive domains with the registration of auto-related top-level domain names including apple.car, apple.cars and apple.auto.
According to reports, the domain names could be related to Apple CarPlay that allows drivers to access contacts on their iPhones, as well as make calls or listen to voicemails without interrupting driving.
Speculation about a possible entry into automotive domains has been going around for a long time and in August last year, the company executives met with the California DMV to review self-driving vehicle regulation.
The company has also held discussions with a secure Bay Area testing facility for connected and autonomous vehicles, reported MacRumors.
Multiple reports have also claimed that the company has a secretive team working on electric vehicles that are expected to be launched by 2019 or 2020.
The iPhone maker has also reportedly poached engineers and other talent from automakers like Tesla, Ford, General Motors.
Apple’s poaching reportedly forced Electric motorcycle startup Mission Motors to cease operations after the company poached some of the key talent from the company.
If Apple releases its electric car it could give tough competition to present EV makers including Tesla, Honda and General Motors.
