Keeping faith with the legion of II users, Apple Computer Inc Friday introduced the Apple IIc Plus, three times faster, but less expensive than the Apple IIc. It uses 3.5 floppy drives to quintuple storage capacity to 800Kb, and the machine runs at 4MHz, switchable to 1MHz for compatibility. It also moves the power supply inside the machine; the keyboard layout and touch are improved, there is a security lock option, slide volume control and revised pin configuration on the serial ports. With mini DIN 8 connectors on the ports, it can be connected to peripherals using standard Apple cables. The 65C02 has 128Kb memory that can go to over 1Mb, and the motherboard also has a connector for internal modem. Out now in the US, the IIc Plus is $675, $860 with mono monitor, $1,100 with colour. The company also added a full 16-bit version of the operating system for the 8-bit bus, 16-bit internal Apple IIGS: GS/OS significantly speeds up boot time, disk access time and program launch time and increases performance of disk-intensive applications. New and existing programs can access data uniformly from ProDOS and other file systems via File System Translators, and file systems thatsupport very big files and storage media up to 4Gb. GO/OS, Finder utilities and manuals sell in a package for $40 all in.
