New offering provides visibility into the physical and virtual IT infrastructure costs
Apptio, a provider of on demand IT Cost Transparency software, has introduced a Cost Transparency product for VMware vSphere 4. This offering complements the capabilities of the VMware vCenter product family, including the recently announced VMware vCenter Chargeback.
The company claimed that Apptio product provides enterprise IT executives and financial managers visibility into the costs of their physical and virtual IT infrastructure. The product reportedly provides built in templates for cost allocation and chargeback of virtualisation, integrated analysis of server cost and utilisation to drive prioritisation of virtualisation targets, and ongoing ROI management of virtualisation initiatives.
According to the company, to manage virtualisation driven business transformation, enterprise customers need visibility into the total costs of virtualisation, including hardware, software, facilities and labor. The Apptio Server Virtualization Cost Transparency software addresses these needs and helps IT departments maximise their investments in virtualisation, claims the company.
The company said, VMware vSphere 4 reportedly provides virtualisation management services that accelerate deployment and simplify the management of virtualised infrastructure and the applications that depend on it.
Apptio claimed that its new offering works with and extends the capabilities of these offerings to add actual cost data, an integrated allocation and chargeback view across physical and virtual infrastructure and robust financial management framework that CIOs and senior IT executives can rely on to manage the business impact of virtualisation.
Shekar Ayyar, vice president of alliances at VMware, said: “As enterprise customers continue to expand their private cloud environments on the VMware platform, improved ability to manage, allocate and charge back costs is an important ingredient. Apptio’s solution complements VMware vSphere 4 and the new VMware vCenter Chargeback to provide additional cost visibility across physical and virtual infrastructures.”
Sunny Gupta, chief executive officer of Apptio, said: “We are pleased to be working with VMware to provide our joint customers with the ability to leverage our combined solutions to get greater visibility into virtualisation costs and proactively address the business transformations necessary to truly unlock the potential of their virtualisation investments.”
