Risc chip developer, ARM Holdings plc.,has paid an undisclosed sum to acquire Axys Design Automation Inc. to expand its RealView design tools portfolio.
Axys’ Electronic System Level (ESL) products are designed to reduce overall system costs by allowing designs to be modeled early in the development cycle to cut time-to-market and reduce design errors.
The two companies have been working together for some time. ARM CEO, Warren East, said the industry trend toward greater complexity of systems had created a demand for tools that bridge the gap between software development environments and the hardware design tools from its EDA Partners.
He argued that the company was a natural fit for ARM as Axys’ ESL products offered a high degree of integration with its existing RealView Developer Suite software design tools.
Irvine, California based Axys, which has a design center in Aachen, Germany, employs 26 people and has assets valued at $1.9 million.
