San Jose chipmaker Atmel Corp reports that it has agreement for a joint venture with China Huajing Electronics Group Corp, a unit of China Electronics Corp, to produce memory and ASIC devices for Atmel at a facility in Wuxi, China; terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the new facility will be equipped with 6 sub-micron wafer production using Atmel’s expertise and supervision; capacity will initially be 6,000 wafers per month with plans to go to 20,000; production is to start in late 1993.
