Binding Corporate Rules Approval relates to the processing of personal data.
Atos has been named as the first IT company to obtain the Binding Corporate Rules (BCR) approval. The approval relates to the processing of personal data on behalf of its clients and for itself.
The approval covers the worldwide operations of Atos Group including Atos Worldgrid, Canopy and Worldline, and has been granted by all European data protection authorities.
Thierry Breton, Atos Chairman and CEO, said: "Personal data is a valuable asset making data protection one of the top priorities for organisations today."
"This BCR certification recognises the strength of our global data protection policies, procedures, training, and all the measures that we take at Atos to create a real data protection culture within our company to safeguard our clients’ data across all our solutions and services. The certification demonstrates to our clients that they can trust Atos when asking to process personal data on their behalf."
BCRs allow multinational companies to transfer personal data from the European Economic Area (EEA) to their affiliates located outside of the EE. This is in compliance with the 8th data protection principle and Article 25 of Directive 95/46/EC.
Companies must demonstrate to all local data protection authorities that BCR are actions that have been implemented to ensure adequate safeguards for protecting personal data throughout the organisation.
