The BBC has stepped up its podcasting trial by including hourly news bulletins from the BBC World Service and audio highlights from its Newsnight program.
The trial which allows listeners to download shows and subscribe to regular podcasts will be also be complimented by 29 new radio programs and highlights from its most popular viewing.
Alongside the news line-up, the BBC will be including a selection of its flagship Radio 4 programming, with podcasts from Woman’s Hour, Start the Week, Broadcasting House, Today in Parliament and Front Row amongst others.
The BBC has also said there will be space for one-off, ad hoc programming. Jeff Randall’s interview with Rupert Murdoch for Five Live’s Weekend Business program was the first download to be offered in this slot.
The broadcaster has plans to bring the total number of programs in the trial to 50, with more programs to be added once the service is confirmed.
