Motorola Inc, the US’s largest cell phone maker, has reported a very healthy third quarter during which demand for its mobile phones showed no sign of letting up.
The company saw profit more than triple to $1.75bn on sales up 26% at $9.42bn, having shipped about 38.7 million phones during the three months to September. About 6.5 million of those were the new Razr phones.
The mobile devices business saw sales of $5.6bn, up 41% on a year ago, the company’s best performance to date. That reflected a global market share gain of 5.5 percentage points on last year, at 19%. It still lags Nokia.
