Cineplex moviegoers carrying PayPass-enabled MasterCard cards will soon be able to pay for tickets and concession items by tapping their cards at designated PayPass readers.
PayPass cards allow users to pay for small purchases by tapping or waving their cards at specially equipped RF terminals. It has already proved popular in conveniences stores and fast food outlets and is being tested on the New York Underground.
Cinema chain Cineplex Entertainment will implement the PayPass program in three theaters in the Greater Toronto Area, and aims to expand the program to more than 100 Cineplex theatres across the country during 2006.
Cineplex Entertainment is committed to offering an exceptional entertainment experience to our guests, said Pat Marshall, vice president of Cineplex. By adding the MasterCard PayPass feature to our box office and concessions, we hope to expedite our speed of service and reduce line-ups in our theatres. This is one more example of Cineplex Entertainment’s commitment to use new technology to enhance the movie-going experience.
