Catapult Entertainment Inc, with financial backing from Blockbuster Entertainment Corp, is launching an interactive video game network that will pit players in remote locations against one another: Catapult uses a specialised modem that enables players to use standard versions of popular games that are already loaded in their personal computers; the modem that connects players is being manufactured by T*HQ Inc and will be in major markets for the Christmas season; Davis Video Enterprises Corp is a principal backer of Catapult, a privately held company based in Los Angeles; the network will play popular games from Sega Enterprises Ltd and Nintendo Co Ltd; Catapult will sell the modem for about the price of a video game and charge a monthly user fee of $5 to $10; because the games are already loaded onto the personal computer, there is no per-game user fee as with there is with other on-line services; to control telephone line costs, Catapult said it is providing parental controls.
