Check Point Software Technologies Ltd has completed one of the first pieces of integration work between its own software and the products it acquired when it bought Zone Labs Inc in April.
The company yesterday said it has released Check Point Integrity SecureClient, which sees the packaging of Zone’s Integrity host-based firewall software and the SecureClient VPN client software used with VPN-1.
Zone’s director of enterprise products, Chad Harrington, said that SecureClient had some limited firewall features already, but none of the outbound protection found in Integrity.
This first-stage integration makes it easier to install and configure, he said. The two clients run as two separate processes, but install together and swap configuration data. So, for example, Integrity will automatically configure itself to open the VPN ports.
The fewer things that have to get installed and configured, the better, he stated. This is particularly important in large companies that have large numbers of remote VPN users, he said.
