Bernard Schaefer, business development manager for Eastern Europe at Compaq Computer Corp says his firm has generated $30m business in the former Soviet Union. He estimated sales grew 1,000% in 1993. Compaq now has eight authorised resellers, with plans to appoint a further five this month; 500 individuals from dealer companies have now received Compaq training and the firm is negotiating with a Moscow university to establish a single training centre. Compaq training is free for dealers and for favoured customers.
