Storage area networking company Crag Technologies Inc is changing its name once again – this time to Connex Inc – and promises to release its first products by the end of the year. Originally known as Ridge Technologies Inc, the company was acquired by Adaptec Inc in 1998. But Adaptec backed out of the deal, and Ridge re-formed itself as Crag, before being acquired again in February of this year by Western Digital Corp (CI No 3,590). Under Western Digital, the unit will be known as Connex, which it says reflects its mission of connecting enterprises to high-availability intelligent networked storage systems.
Connex plans to sell network attached storage and storage area networks to OEMs and VARs. Its first set of products will include Perspective, Java-based object-oriented storage management software, and a high performance network attached system aimed at workgroups and departments. They will be out late in 1999, the company said. Ridge/Crag had originally planed to have its first products out last year, before Adaptec slowed things up. Connex will work with Western Digital’s high-end enterprise design center on the products, as well as with outside partners.
