The US Commerce Department has fined the now-defunct Datapoint International GmbH subsidiary in Vienna, Austria $275,000 for making 37 shipments of computer equipment to Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland between 1981 and 1984 without first seeking the appropriate permissions: at least some of the kit would have been approved; the parent company, Datapoint Corp in San Antonio had no part in the shipments, and drew them to the attention of the Commerce Department when it became aware of them.
