The chief executive of Digital Equipment Corp’s Internet search engine division Alta Vista Internet Software Inc has resigned, apparently because Digital canceled plans to float the unit as a separate company. It originally said it would sell 20% of Alta Vista in an Initial Public Offering (CI No 2,978), but later announced it would retain all of the potentially lucrative business (CI No 3,190). The Wall Street Journal attributes Ilene Lang’s decision to quit, to Digital’s change of heart.
