Digital Equipment Corp has firmed up plans for its new chip plant to fabricate the Alpha RISC, and now says it will definitely build a $425m 526,000-square-foot research and manufacturing facility in Hudson, Massachusetts. Future versions of the Alpha will be made at the plant as well as at the one in South Queensferry, Scotland. The company’s sixth semiconductor wafer fabrication operation, it is code-named Fab-6, and is scheduled for completion in 1994, and manufacturing of Alpha in sub-0.5 micron geometries will start in 1996.
