The gestating deal between DEC and MIPS Computer Systems Inc, which will allow DEC to manufacture the Sunnyvale company’s RISC processor, and to modify the design, is believed to be complete and could be announced as soon as today: DEC is also expected to take a stake in MIPS, something of a departure for the company, which has in general been loath to make acquisitions or make investments in its partners; a station is expected out in January.
