San Jose, California-based Exsys Storage Systems Inc has introduced its RACE Array product into the European market, naming Decade Computers Ltd as sole distributor. The RACE Array protocol conversion kit converts Small Disk Interface into Extended Small Disk Interface, and is available with two or four drives, carrying 1.1Gb and 2.2Gb storage respectively. Compatible with DEC’s RA disk drive series, it provides a formatted disk capacity of 2.07Gb on a single connection to the UDA, KDA, KDB and K.SDI DSA controllers, and is claimed to increase the access to disk storage of the Digital HSC50 to 50Gb and the HSC70 to almost 70Gb: in effect, up to four times the storage capacity for any ESDIcom patible disk. The RACE Array also includes an on-board formatter that allows for stand-alone, offline formatting and verifying operations. Sole UK distributor for the RACE Array is Newbury, Berkshire-based Decade Computers, the distribution arm of Compass Computers; prices range from UKP9,000 to UKP45,000. The C Itoh Techno-Science subsidiary of the vast C Itoh & Co trading house, which markets Sun Microsystems workstations, has bought a 40% stake in Tokyo company Total Management Services in order to increase its expertise in the business management and accounting software field, in particular development of accounting systems: Total Management is primarily a consultancy serving accountants; in the past four years C Itoh Techno Science has sold 3,500 Sun workstations, and currently has orders for 1,500 for delivery by March.
