Dell Inc has teamed up with Linux cluster management software vendor Scali AS to open a new joint Cluster Expert Center to provide cluster design, validation and test facilities to customers in the EMEA region.
The CEC is located at Scali’s facilities in Oslo, Norway and provides an environment where customers will be able to work with experts from both companies to design their HPC (high performance computing) clusters and define performance parameters.
The CEC has been up and running since January 2004 but has only now been officially launched. It is the first dedicated Dell and Scali HPC cluster validation and testing facility in EMEA, although Round Rock, Texas-based Dell has offered similar services from its Application Solution Center in Limerick, Ireland, and will continue to do so.
The CEC is specifically focused on HPC clusters and will provide various hardware and software components, as well as benchmarks, so that joint customers, expected at first to be from the scientific and engineering fields, can ensure that their cluster is designed to provide optimum performance in a production environment.
Dell and Scali have a long-term relationship for HPC clusters. The two companies have a development partnership, and Scali is Dell’s recommended HPC cluster management software vendor.
