Dell Inc has confirmed it will bring wireless broadband technology to its notebook customers in the UK, France, and Germany, and it has chosen to do so over Vodafone’s mobile broadband data network.
Using its build-to-order capability, Dell said it will deliver built-in access to Vodafone’s high-speed wireless data network in these countries, giving users access to email and the internet while on the move, without having to be in range of a wireless hotspot.
Dell said it will offer the option in the first half of this year. The enabling technology, High-Speed Downlink Packet Access, or HSDPA, wireless broadband, is said to be capable of boosting current 3G data transfer speeds by up to four times.
The built-in mobile broadband technology will also be backwards compatible with existing 3G and GPRS wireless data networks, Dell said.
