Plans UK debut through O2 and Carphone Warehouse in June
Dell has announced plans for a new 5-inch Android-based tablet, which will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset and software platform with integrated 1GHz processor and built-in Google Maps for turn-by-turn navigation.
Dell said that it would debut the Streak across the UK through mobile operator O2 and the Carphone Warehouse earlier in June, followed by the US launch latter in the summer. Pricing and data plans for the UK will be announced by O2 ahead of availability.
The Dell Streak will support over-the-air updates including platform upgrades, Adobe Flash 10.1 on Android 2.2 later this year, video chat applications and other software innovations.
According to Dell, the new tablet device comes with 5 megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash; built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3G connectivity options; UMTS / GPRS / EDGE class 12 GSM radio with link speeds of up to HSDPA 7.2Mbps / HSDPA; 2GB of internal storage; and user accessible Micro SD expandable memory available up to 32GB.
In addition, the new device allows users to update social networking status in real-time, and stay connected to others through e-mail, text, IM and voice calls.
Ron Garriques, president, Dell Communication Solutions Group, said: “The Dell Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets. Its unique size provides people new ways to enjoy, connect, and navigate their lives.”
