Digital Communications Associates Inc, Alpharetta, Georgia announced Friday it was expanding in the Macintosh micro-to-mainframe link business with the $8m acquisition of Avatar Technologies Corp, Hopkinton, Massachusetts. There are possible further payments based on performance over the next three years. Digital Communications is to restructure Avatar and integrate its operation into its own communications business, closing Avatar’s Hopkinton and Santa Clara facilities at a cost of unspecified jobs.In its fiscal year to September 30, Avatar had sales of $17m, but profits were not disclosed. Completion of the buy is expected by year-end.
