Cable & Wireless Plc is feeling the pressure applied by all those AT&T Corp and SBC Communications Corp merger rumors (CI No 3,169), not to mention British Telecommunications Plc’s buyout of MCI Corp. The whole situation has led analysts to notice once again that C&W could do with a US partner of its own, the main candidates being seen as the Global One venture between Sprint Corp, Deutsche Telecom AG and France Telecom, or the merging Bell Atlantic Corp and Nynex Corp, desperate for a European presence of its own.
