Plessey, Mitel, GEC, British Telecom and Mercury have successfully completed a trial of a network using the open systems DPNSS, digital private network signalling system, protocol on the government’s telecommunications network. The trial showed that it is possible to extend features, such as call diversion, between different manufacturers’ PABXs across a network. DPNSS was designed as a signalling system that 13 companies, including those involved in the government trial, in the UK have agreed to implement.
