Eastman Kodak Co and Hitachi Ltd have joined forces on development of a home printer that will be able to create 6 by 4 prints from frames of a video cassette recording: the printer, to be manufactured by Hitachi, will use a thermal process to fuse colour dyes, the paper and dye kits to be supplied by Kodak; the printer will cost between $1,000 and $1,500, quality will depend substantially on that of the video signal, and the paper and dye kits are likely to cost around $25 for 30 still pictures.
