ECI Telecom’s wholly owned West German subsidiary, ECI Telecom GmbH, has been awarded an order by the West German telephone administration, the Deutsche Bundespost, totalling some $4.7m. The order includes telephone network termination equipment to be installed on the subscriber’s premises, to interface with the Integrated Services Digital Network for integrated voice, data, text and video services, not previously available without additional peripheral equipment. ECI supplied similar equipment, PCM-2 systems, to the Bundespost in May in an order worth $7.75m. The PCM-2 systems enable subscribers to recieve ISDN-type services before the network has been modified from analogue to digital. The company will complete delivery of its first order in 1988 while shipments of the new order are scheduled in 1989. Both types of equipment are part of the company’s Digiloop product line which enables single-twisted pair copper subscriber loops to carry two voice and/or data transmissions simultaneously. The systems transmit at up to 160Kbps and use echo cancellation techniques.
