General Motors Corp’s Electronic Data Systems unit has signed a near-10-year contract with the US Army to implement and operate Project 80X, the service’s primary personnel management system. EDS describes the pact as one of the most significant data processing contracts ever awarded by the Army and values it in excess of $300m. EDS will act as the systems integrator, acquiring, integrating, installing, and managing both hardware and software at the US Army Military Personnel Center in Alexandria, Virginia. Among the named subcontractors on the project are IBM and Applied Data Research.
