Migration to electronic medical records is gathering pace in the US, as the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center has demonstrated by completing implementation of 100% direct computerized physician order entry in just one year.
Working alongside healthcare information management solutions provider Emerging Health Information Technology, the center implemented the electronic order entry system in place of the older paper-based system.
Emerging Technologies says the center’s physicians and clinicians now have access to a comprehensive view of patient history, test results and current medications at the exact time and place it is needed. Physician instructions and prescriptions can be processed without the need for handwritten charts.
Jack Wolf, president and CEO at Emerging Health, said, Everyone agrees that it is absolutely critical to eliminate inefficient and dangerous paper-based systems. However, when the time comes to transition to a digital environment, many medical centers will be under-funded, understaffed and overwhelmed. They don’t have the physical or human resources to handle this very specific IT competency. Clearly, a hospital is no place to learn by trial and error. Emerging Health’s business is 100% focused on healthcare IT offering skills, technology and tools that have demonstrated success in full-scale hospital operations.
