Enterprise Computing & Computer Storage Inc is said to have one of the first products to receive the RAID Advisory Board’s new disk system rating. The Synchronix Storage Management System has been classified under the new Fault Tolerant Disk System Plus rating, designed to help storage system purchasers identify products via their Extended Data Availability and Protection, and not just by their RAID capability. The RAID Advisory Board published new classifications in January (CI No 3074), replacing the established 0 to 6 RAID, Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disk technology levels. The Synchronix Storage Management System is said to have a high performance, fault tolerant architecture and combines RAID technology with Hierarchical Data Management to ensure high data availability and performance. The new advisory board classifications have been adopted in a bid to simplify data information and at the same time make it more informative and insightful than the old numerical system. The new levels start with Failure Resistant Disk Systems, progressing to Failure Tolerant Disk Systems, and on to Disaster Tolerant Disk Systems. Tinton Falls, New Jersey-based Enterprise Computing was established in 1980 and employs some 90 people. The company says the Synchronix RAB classification distinguishes the product from others on the market.
