Fujitsu Ltd has developed a dynamic image processing system, the FIVIS/VIP, which can take a moving image from a TV camera and perform such feats as determining the colour and shape of a moving object: it consists of 10 super-fast image processors which when operated in parallel can process the images from a TV camera as fast as they are received; applications include anything from monitoring for intruders in factories to detecting abnormal heat distribution in fluids; shipping in November, it’s from $202,000 including an A series computer and Fujitsu hopes to sell 450 in three years.
