Manufacture of Fujitsu Ltd’s new white hope home computer, the FM-Towns, is to be taken on by Fujitsu General Co, the consumer electronics manufacturing arm of the Fujitsu group: Fujitsu General is keen to add contract manufacturing for its parent to its range of activities; up to now, manufacture of the FM-Towns has been split between Fujitsu’s Tatebayashi plant in Gumma and Fujitsu General’s Ichinoseki plant, but as soon as sales take off, Fujitsu will contract all manufacture to Fujitsu General, leaving its Tatebayashi plant to concentrate on higher value computers and other office equipment.
